Enabling Digitisation at Unprecedented Scale for Ralph Lauren

Avery Dennison's partnership with Ralph Lauren is the first time a major fashion brand is undertaking digitisation on a massive scale. By incorporating Janela™ and RFID technology into their digitally enabled labels, the brand is building greater visibility, integrity and efficiency into its supply chain and creating the opportunity for a richer consumer experience. The initiative has been covered in detail by Women’s Wear Daily and also by the World Economic Forum in the White Paper ‘Supply Chain Collaboration through Advanced Manufacturing Technologies'.

Love it for Longer

Avery Dennison’s Janela™ revolutionises the care label by giving it a unique digital identity, enabling consumers to access bespoke care advice online to lengthen the life of a garment and provide creative ideas on how to style it.

Launching a Successful RFID Solution for Southern Fried Cotton

Avery Dennison RFID solution achieves high levels of order accuracy and operational efficiencies

We continue to make a positive difference in the apparel industry, deploying our innovative RFID solutions with brands to improve order accuracy and increase operational efficiencies. Our RFID technology accomplished just that for Southern Fried Cotton (SFC), an apparel company located in Clemson, South Carolina. Wanting to uniquely identify their products for the benefit of its retailers and company operations, SFC set out to partner with us to map out a strategy that would meet their goals.

As a GS1 US® Solution Partner, we worked with SFC to deploy an in-house Electronic Product Code (EPC®)-enabled item level RFID tagging solution, that would deliver a measurable return-on investment and future-proof their business. This solution addressed the needs of their retail customers, and also morphed into a much more integral component in the company’s overall growth strategy.

What I love about RFID technology is that the benefits are realized regardless of the size of the retailer or brand, big or small,” says Daniel Lusty, manager, market development, RFID. Brands can basically create a unique digital ID for each garment or product—a virtual birth certificate.

The Changing Face of Retail

With today’s omnichannel retail landscape, it comes as no surprise that more than 50% of leading brands and retailers are assessing, testing or adopting RFID due to its strong business case according to Auburn University. As shopping demands continue to shift, consumers expect to be able to purchase products across multiple channels whether that be in-store, online or on a mobile device.

This presents a complex opportunity for retailers to have clear visibility of their inventory at all times to enable them to meet consumer expectations. To keep up with these changing demands retailers need to have accurate visibility of stock to maximize the productivity of their inventory and enable the sale to be made irrelevant of where and when the consumer makes that purchasing decision.

The Changing Face of Retail, produced by ITN Productions in partnership with the British retail Consortium, features businesses from across the retail industry, exploring how the market is transforming. In this business highlight Avery Dennison partnered with British retailer John Lewis to showcase how RFID is being used within its UK stores to improve consumer experience through stock availability, enhance employee satisfaction through increased efficiencies and above all, boost inventory productivity to drive sales and profits and reduce markdowns.

lululemon + RFID:
Connecting With Community

Global yogawear brand, lululemon® is on a mission to build healthy
communities and elevate the world from mediocrity to greatness. How are they accomplishing this? By using their retail stores to discover exactly what the health-minded community wants and needs to succeed.

To help, lululemon adopts technologies that further enhance consumer experiences, and inventory accuracy is a foundational need to deliver this both at lululemon stores and via e-commerce channels. That’s why lululemon decided, in order to drive an exceptional consumer experience, they would need to implement item-level RFID.

What lululemon needed could be achieved through the implementation of an integrated RFID solution, leveraging the powerful insights that only RFID technology can provide. lululemon identified Tyco Retail Solutions and Avery Dennison RFID as partners for the project.

Avery Dennison RFID developed a program to implement RFID at the item level, which would help drive efficiencies throughout their supply chain. Integrated RFID, lululemon hangtags were affixed to yogawear and athletic products and were key to the success of the program. In 2013, lululemon decided to launch a pilot in two retail stores to provide proof of value and concept for both the business and guest experience.

In 2014, after seeing successful results, lululemon implemented RFID across 12 stores and by September 2015 moved on to a full rollout to all 300 stores with locations in the United States, Canada, and two stores in Hong Kong.

The adoption of RFID enabled the lululemon team to service consumers with the ultimate brand engagement experience.
