Pioneering digital IDs for pre-fillable syringes

Case study: How digital ID technology is advancing next generation fill-finish production lines.

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) has a vision of unit-level traceability in the pharmaceutical supply chain. As the industry moves towards a platform approach, where multiple products or doses are filled into the same syringe container, the importance of robust drug batch segregation strategies is becoming increasingly clear.

BD collaborated with Avery Dennison to develop an RFID-based solution, embedding RFID tags into the syringe's rigid needle shield, enabling unit-level traceability, reducing mix-up risks, optimizing manufacturing, meeting regulatory requirements, and showcasing the potential of digital identification technologies in healthcare.
