Smartrac introduces Maxdura® Thermologger for challenging cold-chain environments

GLENDALE, CA – June 25, 2020 —  Smartrac, an Avery Dennison (NYSE: AVY) company, today announced a new semi-active UHF RFID temperature logging product, the Maxdura® Thermologger. Combining high accuracy and robustness in a hard tag, Maxdura Thermologger opens new possibilities for cold chain applications in food, pharma and other segments.

As the product name indicates, Maxdura Thermologger offers the robustness and performance typical of Smartrac’s Maxdura hard tag portfolio and combines these features with the temperature logging capabilities the battery-powered label solution ‘Temperature Logger NFC’ is known for.

Robustness, cost-efficiency and accuracy
The new product has been built for resistance to dust, chemicals and mechanical stress as well as protection against temporary immersion in water, enabled by an extra-rugged sealed ABS casing with IP68 rating. Equipped with a UHF Gen2 air interface, a long battery life (three years or five use cycles), Maxdura Thermologger can be easily integrated into existing RAIN RFID (UHF) reader setups used for item management applications.

For fulfilling its cold chain and industrial temperature logging role, the new product also incorporates eponymous temperature data-logging capabilities based on its sensor functionality. Combining a scalable log memory, an operating temperature range from -30°C to 60°C (- 22°F to +140°F), and an accuracy of up to ±0.1 °C, Maxdura Thermologger fits the widest possible array of application needs. That also applies to the temperature measurement intervals which can be set between 1 second and 24 hours.

Highly flexible reader interface
To maximize application flexibility and future viability, Maxdura Thermologger features a universally applicable reader interface. Thus, sensors with higher accuracy and different functionalities (pressure, humidity, gas, acceleration) can be integrated in the future without affecting this interface.

Maxdura Thermologger has a hard tag-like form factor measuring 100 × 75 × 11 mm (4.0 × 3.0 × 43 in) and comes with 3072 bits user memory that enables the storage of up to 1000 data measurements (8 bit / 0.5°C resolution). Higher memory capacities are available upon request, as are higher precision temperature sensors.

“With the new Maxdura Thermologger, we are demonstrating our technology leadership in the hard tags segment as well as the ability to respond to customer needs. With its unique feature set, the new product makes highly accurate temperature logging robust and opens up a new cold chain application”, said Dr. Juha Virtanen, Head of R&D, Avery Dennison Intelligent Labels.

Maxdura Thermologger is now available for high volume orders.
