Avery Dennison and Impinj are leading UHF RFID advancements to the grocery industry
Avery Dennison, the world largest partner in UHF RFID and Intelligent Labels and Impinj, the leading provider and pioneer of RAIN RFID solutions, are set to revolutionize the grocery industry by unveiling the UHF RFID label solution for use in microwave ovens.
Designed for item-level tagging of frozen and refrigerated packaged foods, the new RAIN UHF RFID inlay AD-25xr6-P featuring the Impinj Monza R6-P chip will guarantee on-shelf availability for categories previously limited due to the risk of consumer use in microwaves. Specifically designed to resist excessive heating and arcing when used in accordance with printed instructions, Avery Dennison’s UHF RFID microwave label is compliant with TÜV Rheinland® T-Mark certification standards. With this industry leading microwave safe version, RFID can play a significant role in helping to reduce food waste while also ensuring food retailers can deliver a safe post-purchase experience.
“Avery Dennison's new microwave-safe tag enables RAIN RFID-based inventory tracking and supply chain visibility for foods that consumers heat in microwave ovens,” said Chris Diorio, Impinj founder and CEO. “The industry has needed a microwave-safe tag since Avery Dennison, Impinj and others began investigating food tagging ten years ago, and it’s exciting to have a solution that opens the door to improved traceability, inventory control and customer experience for the many types of food products sold in convenience and grocery stores.”
"This joint innovation with Impinj has been a primary focus for us to provide a key unlock for the food sector. Many companies have not yet implemented RFID and we are committed to working with valuable partners like Impinj to solve complex industry needs." Francisco Melo, VP/GM RFID, Avery Dennison.
